As we age, many things change and that includes our skin. The body produces less collagen as you get older and collagen is important for keeping your skin looking and feeling smooth and elastic. It is a lack of collagen and elastin that often leads to sagging skin, wrinkles, lines, and much more. This leaves you looking older and less vibrant.
The good news is that there are ways to stimulate the production of collagen and restore your skin’s youthful appearance and feel.
What is Microneedling and How Does it Work?
Microneedling is a minimally invasive process designed to help your skin look and feel its best. What is microneedling? It is a cosmetic procedure that involves miniature sterilized needles that are used to create micro-punctures in the skin. This process stimulates the body’s natural healing processes and that means your body starts to produce more collagen and elastin. These will keep your skin looking firm and smooth.
What are the Benefits?
As mentioned, the most significant of the microneedling benefits is that it stimulates collagen production. Collagen is a protein that is found in the body’s connective tissue, including the skin. Not only does lower collagen lead to visible signs of aging such as sagging and wrinkles, but it also leads to a lack of skin hydration, skin damage and discoloration, and much more. When you increase collagen production, you improve the look and feel of your skin and start to look and feel younger and more revitalized.
Microneedling can also help treat other skin issues such as enlarged pores, stretch marks, acne scars, hyperpigmentation, and much more.
What Areas Can be Treated?
Most people receive microneedling on the face, but the techniques can be used just about anywhere on the body. For instance, it can be used to treat stretch marks on other areas, such as the thighs or abdomen.
Is There any Downtime?
There is no significant downtime following a microneedling session. Unlike other treatments that are more invasive, most people are able to return to their usual activities right after a microneedling session. However, it is recommended that you avoid significant sun exposure for at least a few days following your treatment.
In addition to the lack of downtime, the process itself is typically quite quick. It usually takes only about 30 minutes to complete a session. Depending on the condition of your skin and the issues that you want to treat, more than one session may be recommended. Our team will help you understand what will work best for you, so you know exactly what to expect.
When Can you Start Seeing Results?
You can start to see the results of microneedling almost immediately. The body’s healing process begins right away, so when you leave our spa, you’ll leave looking and feeling refreshed and renewed.
Over the next few weeks, your body will continue to produce collagen, and this will be visible in your skin. It will look smoother, softer, more supple, and generally younger and vibrant. Wrinkles and fine lines will be much less visible and jowls and other sagging will disappear. As mentioned, it may be suggested that you undergo more than one treatment, but this will depend on your situation and what you wish to treat.
For instance, fine lines and wrinkles often require one or two sessions while scars and stretch marks typically need more. Talking to the experts on our team will help you understand what is recommended for you.
